An interesting GPP play in Mashairo Tanaka tonight. He’s been excellent over his last five starts, pitching to a 1.93 ERA and striking out 34 batters in those 32.2 IP. Even more impressive, he’s only walked one batter in that span. His 9.37 K/9 is 6th best on this slate but the only concern is that he’s facing the Toronto Blue Jays today. Everyone knows the Jays are a potent offense, but they are also a high strikeout team, K’ing 21.7% of the time in the last 30 days which is the 9th worst mark in the league. The range of outcomes for Tanaka is large, but he should be less owned than usual.

Another day, another chance to target the Padres. I am willing to roster almost anyone against San Diego, but Drew Pomeranz has actually been very good recently. Over his last six starts, he’s pitching to a 2.70 ERA while striking out over a batter an inning. Those numbers come against American League foes, but tonight he will step in and face the worst hitting team in a pitcher-friendly park with the lack of a DH. All signs point to Pomeranz being in-line for a stellar night.

The pitching target worth pointing out is Matt Andriese of the Rays. He’s been clobbered over his last four starts, allowing 21 earned runs over those 20.1 IP. That’s a 9.30 ERA and opponents are hitting .352 against him. Now he will have to take on the Orioles who can drop a ten-spot on any given night. The O’s are a top ten offense no matter how you split the season. They’ve lowered their K rate down under 20% in the last 30 days and feature a lineup full of multi-HR power.
