Keep Vince Velasquez on your radar moving forward. He looked excellent in his first game back from a bicep injury. He struck out seven Diamondbacks over five shutout innings. It’s obvious that the Phillies were easing him back into action, removing him after 84 pitches. It appears that he came out of that game unscathed, so it would be reasonable to see his pitch count continue to rise. Remember that VV can pile on the strikeouts in a hurry and he will face an average Royals team tonight who will lose their DH. I think Velasquez is a GPP play only tonight, but should be remembered moving forward.

Adam Conley is a sneaky play tonight against the Atlanta Braves. Conley’s 9.34 K/9 over the last thirty days is the sixth best on this slate and he’s been solid with a 3.53 ERA over his last six starts. The real benefit to Conley is the matchup with Atlanta. The Braves rank in the bottom three of the league in almost every offensive category, including ranking 29th in wOBA versus LHP.

Twins starter Kyle Gibson is coming off a seven inning, seven strikeout gem against the White Sox. That outing has been out of the ordinary for Gibson who is sporting a 6.05 ERA in his other seven starts this season. Gibson opponents are batting a stellar .296 against him and his inability to strikeout hitters (29 in 45.2 IP) has created a lot of opportunities for his opponents. Now he has to battle the Rangers who are scorching hot right now, ranking 6th in wOBA in the last thirty days. Texas has belted 46 homers which is the third-most in the league.
