Small slate, with a lack of exciting options. I am leaning towards paying the price and riding Clayton Kershaw. I probably don’t need to dig too deep into why you should love rostering Kershaw, but I will. His 10.87 K/9 has been just as dazzling as his 2.00 xFIP. He’s been his dominant self over his last four starts, racking up 44 Ks in 31 IP. He’s battling the Mets tonight who rank 14th in the league in wOBA vs. LHP and strike out at the 5th highest rate. With the heavy weighting on strikeouts on DraftKings, even if Kershaw give up a few runs, he can provide tremendous upside via the strikeout.

If you want some more value, consider Ubaldo Jimenez. He looked solid in his last outing, scattering nine hits over eight innings of work while piling up six strikeouts against the Oakland A’s. His 8.83 K/9 is 5th-best on this slate and he’s always been an excellent groundball pitcher. Tonight he gets the Tigers who are in the midst of a big-time struggle. Only the Twins and Braves have a worse wOBA in the last seven days and only two teams are striking out more often. The big strikeout numbers are not limited to just this week. The Tigers strike out the 6th most often for the course of the entire season.

Another day, another fade of Jered Weaver. The advanced metrics are just so clear that he’s been brutal this season. He’s continued to get away with a massive xFIP (5.49 – worst on the slate), a lack of strikeouts (4.98 – second worst on the slate) and a large hard hit percentage (37.2% – third worst on the slate). Despite all of that, he has been serviceable as a big league pitcher, which simply doesn’t add up. He’s starting to feel some variance as he’s surrendered 26 hits and 12 ER over his last 17 IP. He’s in for a brutal matchup with the Cardinals tonight who have been one of the league’s best offenses no matter how you split the season. Third best wOBa, second-most HRs, third-most runs, best wOBA vs. RHP, etc. etc. Also, they will benefit from adding the DH in an American League park tonight. I am piling up Cardinals lineups as much as possible.
